Star's Topless Red Carpet Stunt Explained
Chappell Roan is laughing off the commotion caused by her barely-there 2026 Grammys dress. The singer shared a few photos of herself in the sheer burgundy Mugler dress on Instagram after the event. The wild red carpet look showed plenty of skin and was attached to her chest via a pair of faux piercings. But Roan insisted the dress was not "that outrageous" of a choice.
"Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit," she wrote. "The look’s actually so awesome and weird." Roan continued, "I recommend just exercising your free will it’s really fun and silly :D." Thank you for having me @grammys and those who voted for me!!"
Many of her fans agreed with her sentiment in the comments section, writing that her Grammys look was "the coolest" and "simply perfect." The singer was up for two Grammys on Sunday — Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, both for The Subway — but went home empty-handed. Record of the Year went to Kendrick Lamar’s Luther and Best Pop Solo Performance went to Lola Young’s Messy. Still, Roan, 27, had one of the most talked-about dresses of the night.
Aside from being revealing, the style also allowed her to show off a ton of temporary body art, including a pony on her chest and a giant temporary tattoo of a lace panel on her back. Roan credited artist Jenny Collins of Puppy Puppy Playtime for the tattoos. The Pink Pony Club songstress also accessorised with statement jewellery by Buccellati, including a gold choker and matching earrings. Roan arrived at the Grammys wearing a sheer burgundy cape, which she later dropped for the ultimate red carpet reveal. She also changed outfits when she presented the award for Best New Artist to Olivia Dean during the ceremony. Roan’s second look of the night was an ethereal Rodarte dress from the label’s 2007 fall/winter collection, and was far more conservative than her Mugler moment. She closed out the ceremony in a fairytale-worthy white caped look from Dilara Findikoglu’s spring/summer 2026 collection.
